Squarepoint in Exploratory Talks to Launch CLO Platform
Squarepoint Capital is in exploratory talks to start a CLO platform as a new manager, according to sources.
Squarepoint has a history in the CLO sector through its partnership with London-based manager Arini. Squarepoint announced a strategic partnership with Arini in 2021, with Arini later pricing its debut European CLO in 2023 and its debut U.S. CLO earlier this year.
The terms of Squarepoint and Arini’s partnership put Arini on a path to operational independence within three years, according to an announcement from the firms at the time.
The new platform would exist under the Squarepoint brand and operate separately from Arini, according to sources, who told Octus that the firm has not yet hired a team.
Several new U.S. CLO managers have emerged this year, including Garnet Credit Management, Abry Partners, CTM Asset Management, Macquarie Asset Management, Kohlberg & Co. and more. Others such as Lord Abbett and State Street are at various stages of setting up new platforms.
A spokesperson for Squarepoint did not respond to a request for comment.
