Data Drop: CLO ETFs Increase Investor Opportunities On Both Sides of the Atlantic

Exchange-traded funds, or ETFs, have been sweeping the CLO market recently, as the U.S. market surpassed $50 billion in assets under management in June, and the European market reached its two-year anniversary earlier this month, hitting €3.1 billion.
The market is led by funds that invest heavily in CLO triple-A paper, with Janus Henderson being the most prolific asset manager in the space. The firm manages $33.8 billion across its CLO ETFs in both the U.S. and Europe, with the Janus Henderson AAA CLO ETF, or JAAA, making up the bulk of that at $31.4 billion.
The European market does not have a single dominant ETF like the U.S., however the Invesco EUR AAA CLO UCITS ETF leads the space as the only fund currently above €1 billion, at €1.1 billion. Two new entrants joined the space this year, M&G and Muzinich, taking the total number of European CLO ETFs to nine.
