RBC Hires Head of European CLOs for Push Into Arranger Market
RBC has hired Charles Hatton, head of ABS and CLO syndicate at Natixis, as head of European CLOs, according to sources.
Hatton’s move marks an important step in the buildout of RBC’s European CLO arranging business. The bank has until now mostly been active as a warehouse lender and occasional co-arranger, for example on recent new issues by LGT, HPS and RBC’s asset management branch BlueBay.
Hatton joined Natixis in October 2025, having previously spent seven years on BNP Paribas’ CLO syndicate.
Hatton declined to comment. RBC and Natixis did not reply to requests for comment.
In July, Octus reported that RBC hired Chris Nias, previously a securitized products trader at Mizuho.
RBC has significantly increased its warehouse financing activity over the past month. When Octus launched its European CLO Warehouse Tracker in September 2025, RBC was the lender to seven out of 88 open facilities, ranking fifth among the most active lenders. JPMorgan was in the top spot with 13 open warehouses.
By the start of 2026, RBC had taken the lead position and has remained there since. As of last week, the bank was the lender to 22 out of 128 European facilities, comfortably ahead of second-place BNP Paribas with 13 facilities.
